Yama Surya is the artistic vision of the French, Chinese Malaysian artist Geoffrey Lai.
 

Deeply touched by country ever since his arrival in Australia more than a decade ago, Geoffrey's artistic life started as an introspective journey in deep communion with country, a relationship that only deepened with every new step taken upon those ancestral lands.

Now based at the border of Worimi and Biripi country, on the East coast of Australia, his art has become an expression of his reverence toward tradition, and an active engagement into his own cultural lineage.

"As we learn to walk country, we allow country to walk through us..."

His mindful work with stone and wood from country is a celebration and expression of his connection to both culture and country, through symbolism and craftmanship.
